Lost in the desert

Savoia-Marchetti SM.79 Sparviero wreckage

I love desolated settings and a sunburned desert is no exception. Endless planes of sand, sand dunes and rocky areas without any man made structures, only the sound of a gentle desert breeze.

Suddenly a formation of rocks. Here in the middle of nowhere an Italian plane had crashed during WWII and burned to the bones. Only a metal frame left...

3D printed frame

Airplane frames are cleverly constructed wooden or aluminium rib cages but are a pain in the #ss for modelers to scratchbuild from plastic (Polystyrene) or metal rot. Not only does a usual ribcage consists of lots of individual rots which makes it very labour-intensive to build the construction which is in most cases symetrical is vey suitable to 3D model & printing. So I did using Autodesks' 3D Studio max.
